One of the most difficult things to see from these diagrams is exactly how small this packs. This is a lot of backup power for a small package. It essentially disappears in the bottom of your pack.
As a professional ski guide and educator, I carry a tarp and sled 100% of my time in the mountains. I can't imagine heading out without them. What surprises me, is how many recreational users don't consider this as essential gear. We put so much emphasis on avalanche awareness and beacon use. These are important issues for sure, but they don't cover all your bases.
Self-rescue is generally faster and safer than getting outside help. If a member of your party cannot walk or ski out, how are you going to move them? This sled constructs quickly and easily. It provides a sturdy platform so that you can tow an injured skier to safety.
I have used this sled many times in annual training. It is amazing how strong they are. They are intuitive to build. They are well marked, so there is no confusion about attachments.
Every party of backcountry traveler should be carrying a sled and tarp. This All-in-One combo covers all you need.
